v2.6.38Latest

Signed-in Teams bots join meetings already in progress

  • 1improved
  • 2fixed

This release fixes two things people in the meeting notice. Signed-in Microsoft Teams bots now join meetings that are already underway instead of timing out on the pre-join screen, and speaking bots are heard about three seconds sooner, with their words attributed to them in the transcript. If you send authenticated Teams bots or speaking bots, this release is for you. There are no changes to API requests, responses or webhooks, and no action is needed.

Improvements

  • Speaking bots are heard about three seconds sooner. The bot's voice was held in an audio buffer for about three seconds between the moment it started to answer and the moment the meeting heard it. That buffer is gone: a reply now reaches the meeting within tens of milliseconds of the bot speaking, which is most of the delay you may have noticed between a question and the bot's answer. See Speaking bots.

Bug Fixes

  • Signed-in Teams bots join meetings that are already in progress. When someone was already in the meeting, the Teams pre-join screen showed an "Organizer joined" button above "Join now", and the bot pressed the wrong one, waited, and ended with TIMEOUT_WAITING_TO_START while the organizer saw nobody arrive. Bots that reached an empty meeting were unaffected. The bot now presses "Join now" and checks that it took. See Authenticated Teams bots.
  • Transcripts attribute the end of a speaking bot's turn to the bot. Because the bot's voice reached the recording about three seconds late, the last seconds of each bot turn were credited to whoever spoke next, and the human's last words before a bot reply were credited to the bot. With the delay gone, speaker turns in the transcript line up with the audio. See Transcription.
