Bots leave meetings once everyone has left

This release stops bots from staying in meetings after everyone has left. Microsoft Teams bots used to stay until silence_timeout ran out, which could add up to an hour of empty recording to every meeting; they now leave shortly after the last participant. A new timeout_config.everyone_left_timeout option controls how long the bot waits once it is alone, and bots that only record now join muted and can no longer be heard by participants.

New Features

  • timeout_config.everyone_left_timeout sets how many seconds the bot stays once every other participant has left (10–1800, default 30). It applies to Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom bots that join with Zoom credentials, and participants listed in ignored_participant_names are not counted. Zoom bots that join without Zoom credentials cannot see who is in the meeting and still leave through silence_timeout. Accepted by POST /v2/bots, scheduled bots and calendar bots, see Create bot.

Improvements

  • Zoom bots that join with Zoom credentials now wait everyone_left_timeout (30 seconds by default) after the last participant leaves instead of leaving the instant they are alone, so a participant who drops and rejoins does not end the recording.
  • On Google Meet, the "No one else is here" screen now also waits everyone_left_timeout before the bot leaves.

Bug Fixes

  • Microsoft Teams bots now leave once everyone has left. Teams bots did not notice participants leaving and stayed in the meeting until silence_timeout ran out (10 minutes by default), recording silence you were billed for. They now leave everyone_left_timeout seconds after the last participant, ending with ALL_PARTICIPANTS_LEFT. The bot only checks for an empty meeting from 5 minutes into the recording.
  • Bots that only record can no longer be heard in the meeting. Some bots without streaming_config.input_url joined with a live microphone, and on Microsoft Teams participants heard a constant hum until the host muted the bot. Bots that only record now join muted on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoom and stay muted for the whole meeting.
  • Zoom bots that join with Zoom credentials no longer end with NO_ATTENDEES after recording a real meeting. When everyone left a meeting that had been running longer than no_one_joined_timeout, the bot ended with NO_ATTENDEES as if nobody had joined. NO_ATTENDEES is now only reported when nobody else joined.
